Profile

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2002, with total intake of 60 students and is offering B.E. Civil Engineering. AICTE approved new PG program (M.E. Environmental Engineering) from the academic year of 2012-13. The department is certified for ISO 9001:2008 certification. The department is supported by well qualified faculty team in various fields of specialization like Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Remote Sensing and GIS, Environmental Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. Through effective teaching learning process the department has produced one university rank under Anna University, Chennai and Three university ranks under Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore. All laboratories in the department are well furnished with the state-of-art equipments like digital compression testing machine, digital torsion testing Machine, advance total station, etc., and are maintained by qualified technical persons in each laboratory. Research and Consultancy activities are undertaken in our department with the concurrence letter from District Collectorate. The department is marching forward to achieve excellence in every field of specialization in Civil Engineering by conducting symposia seminars, guest lectures and conferences on the latest developments and arranging industrial visits and export lectures for the benefit of the students to the path of academic success in the future. Students of the department are highly enthusiastic and actively participate in various co-curricular activities. Entrepreneurship cell is effectively functioning in our institution to motivate the students to innovate new technical ideas which will help the society. All faculty and the students are active members in ISTE and some of them are members of Indian Concrete Institute. The Department of Civil Engineering has the following Vision, Mission, Program Educational Objectives and Outcomes.

Vision

To provide students latest learning techniques and full-fledged knowledge base in related sectors to make them globally recognizable Civil Engineers.

Mission

  • To inculcate knowledge through laboratory and field study, apart form effective teaching-learning process.
  • To utilize the infrastructure of the college to the maximum extent.
  • To synergize the efforts of both students and staff to meet the ever-growing construction –needs of the industry.
  • To expose the students in undergone Research and Consultancy works.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

PEO I: To prepare the students with strong fundamental knowledge in Mathematics, Science, English and Engineering Sciences so as to enable them to analyze the Mechanical Engineering related problems (Preparation).

PEO II : To develop ability among the students for acquiring technical knowledge in the subjects and gaining the technical skills in classical software packages, applying the same for design, fabricate and install the machines (Core competence and professionalism).

PEO III :To provides opportunities for students to work with all related fields of engineering enlarge the ability among the students to understand the different industrial environments (Breadth).

PEO IV:To promote the students for continuous learning, research and development with strong professional moral and ethical values. (Learning environment).

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (PO)

PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9: Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

P10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

P11: Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

P12: Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
